  • 4 cups whole milk

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 1 tablespoon Civilized Coffee Espresso Powder

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

  • 1 cup hot water

  1. Over medium heat, add the milk and heavy cream into a large pot and warm until hot, but not boiling.

  2. While the milk and cream are warming, combine the Civilized Coffee Espresso Powder, cinnamon, and salt in a heat-safe bowl. Pour in the hot water and stir to combine. Put aside.

  3. When the milk and cream are hot, add in the sugar and chocolate and stir until the mixture is melted and smooth. Add in the espresso mixture and vanilla and whisk to combine.

  4. Ladle the espresso hot chocolate into mugs and add toppings of your choice. We recommend marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream!

  5. If the hot chocolate begins to cool, re-heat on the stove top over medium heat. Do not let it reach a boil.
